A system in the central Caribbean Sea called Tropical Depression 19 was upgraded to Tropical Storm Sara on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 14.

It's now moving westward toward Central America.

Tropical storm warnings are in effect for parts of Honduras and Nicaragua.

"Residents in these areas should monitor the storm's progress and follow local advisories," the National Hurricane Center said.

Current projections have the storm headed to Florida on Wednesday, Nov. 20. (See the images above.)

But cooler water temperatures could prevent it from hitting the US as a major hurricane.

"The water in the Gulf of Mexico is not as warm as that of the Caribbean and is only marginally warm enough to support a tropical storm or hurricane," AccuWeather says. "Ahead of an approaching cold front, disruptive breezes, known as wind shear, will also increase."

The hurricane season runs through Saturday, Nov. 30.
